Mike Olenick is
a filmmaker, editor, and photographer. In his work, he obsessively appropriates,
remembers, restages, and re-edits other cinematic works.
His videos have screened at the World Wide Video Festival, Cinematexas,
L.A. Freewaves, the Cinémathèque Française, the Ann
Arbor Film Festival, VIPER Basel, the New York Underground Film Festival,
and the Brooklyn Underground Festival. His video The Son of
Samsonite screened on Dutch television,
received an honorable mention at the Ann Arbor Film Festival, and was
featured in the touring program Let’s Get Tested, organized by Astria
Suparak. He is the recipient of an Ohio Arts Council Individual Artist
Fellowship and his video Rabid won the Audience
Award at Cinematexas 11.
He received his MFA from the Cranbrook Academy of Art (with an emphasis
in photography) and his BFA from the Columbus College of Art and Design
in Media Studies. He is currently a video editor in the Art & Technology
studio at the Wexner Center for the Arts, where he has worked on projects
with Sadie Benning, Jennifer Reeder, and Deborah Stratman, among others. |
