Rabid is screening in Cinematexas 11 in Austin this month. "Then we have an entirely different kind of tragic comedy: in Mike Olenick’s RABID, the magic of editing brings us the ability to witness every screen kiss by actress Kirsten Dunst, in chronological order, starting with her as a very young child in BONFIRE OF THE VANITIES and ending with WIMBLEDON before informing (or warning) us “to be continued...” Dang, she’s kissed and been kissed by a lot of dudes. I won’t say much about this film, other than that it is un-fuckwithable and brilliant. By distilling a singularity of gesture from one starlet (Dunst’s kisses,) and preserving the musical cues from the original clips, a rhythmic proto-narrative emerges that calls into question the nature of an industry that allows us to watch a young girl blossom into sexual maturity before our eyes, to actually track her synthetic conquests, her technique, her “acting.” And then, what does it mean for a filmmaker to bring us along on such a weird fetishistic trip?" - Justin Goldwater, Cinematexas For a Blonde... For a Brunette... For Someone... For Her... For You... is screening in EX-IS in Seoul, Korea. |
