For a Blonde… For a Brunette… For Someone… For Her… For You… (2005)
For a Blonde… For a Brunette... For Someone... For Her... For You... is an interactive video featuring a reenactment of a key scene from Vertigo. The filmmaker takes on the role of James Stewart and addresses the audience who is encouraged to complete the scene and the video by acting out Kim Novak’s role, via karaoke-style subtitles. The film is intentionally minimal and the viewer is prompted to imagine the scenario (including location and music) using onscreen script headings while hopefully remembering the original film. The film also incorporates the sound of the room it is screening in as part of the soundtrack.
Press:
“Standing in an empty black space and dressed in an old suit, Olenick looks like he’s fixated on the audience like Scottie was on Judy. His timing and facial expressions are a large part of the pleasure in this minimalist film.” – Mark Pfeiffer, Reel Times: Reflections on Cinema
