Experimental Drawing Device (2019)

Drawing #2: The Phantom Triangle (2019)
l
atex paint and pencil on concrete, approximately 2’ x 6’

Rather than reflect light off of the mirrored lens, this piece was made by shining the beam of projector light through the negative space of the lens and onto a column opposite Experimental Drawing Device. I had never seen the column used as a space for art making and wanted my work to engage with it.

Drawing #2 was made at the same time as Drawing #1 and uses the same setup without moving any of the equipment. It was also painted in a location that couldn’t be seen from the entrance to the space.

In this work, Drawing #2 is activated by the Experimental Drawing Device, causing the white triangle to pulse with yellow light.
