S.P.E.C.T.R.U.M. (2014)

162 35mm slides, 2 synched slide projectors with dust covers, dissolve unit and projector stand.
19 minute loop, dimensions variable.

Combining analogue projector technology with digitally prepared slides, S.P.E.C.T.R.U.M. is an expanded cinema installation using color and duration to explore perception.

Each of the two slide projectors contain carousels with a series of solid colored slides. Each slide is a subtly different hue encompassing the spectrum of visible light. A dissolve unit slowly modulates the light between the two projectors (gradually turning one projector on while the other one turns off at the same speed). The slide carousels rotate to the next slide when they are off, which allows the light on the wall to mysteriously change color.

A full cycle of the installation lasts approximately 19 minutes and it loops infinitely. The slides are projected out of focus to let the color disappear on the surface of the wall.
